SaJune Institute for Restorative and Regenerative Medicine is proud to announce the addition of a very promising program to treat difficult conditions such as fibromyalgia and chronic bladder pain and spasm. Sajune is continuing the pioneering and very successful work of Dr. Stan Jacobs of Oregon Health Sciences University who has treated over 25,000 patients with MSM and/or DMSO. The program involves the intensive clinical application of this naturally-occurring MSM compound, best known for its effectiveness in arthritis and fibromyalgia.
Chronic bladder pain and spasm is also known as Interstitial Cystitis or IC. For IC, a therapeutic MSM treatment plan may initially involve the instillation of MSM directly into the bladder via a bladder catheter, along with intravenous, oral and topical modes of administration, or some combination of these modalities. When bladder catheterizations/instillations are ordered a gradually tapering program will ensue with the patient eventually able to perform bladder instillations at home. For IC patients, bladder instillations (performed by our nursing staff) of MSM are generally performed at least 3 times per week for the first two weeks, then 1-2 times weekly for two weeks, then as needed. For fibromyalgia patients, a combination regimen consisting of IV and oral MSM may be prescribed. A common IV MSM protocol involves twice weekly IV infusions for two weeks, then once per week for 2 weeks, then as needed.
Interstitial Cystitis is a disabling bladder condition characterized by some or all of the following symptoms: bladder pain and pressure, pain during sexual intercourse, bladder inflammation, pelvic pain, and often urinary frequency and urgency. Patients with IC often have systemic symptoms associated with the disorder such as musculoskeletal pain, fibromyalgia, gastrointestinal disturbances, allergies and migraine headaches. The etiology is unknown. IC or Painful Bladder Syndrome affects an estimated 1 million Americans. The condition is often very treatment resistant.
The intensive MSM program is considered to be a major breakthrough in the treatment of difficult IC cases, and is complementary to Sajune’s already highly effective five-point restorative medicine model in the treatment of IC and most other chronic diseases. Sajune’s five-point restorative medicine model is based on a synergistic approach which focuses on optimizing diet and immune function, detoxifying the body, balancing hormones, and adding holistic mind and body therapies such as exercise, yoga, massage, meditation, stress reduction, etc.
New patients with IC and fibromyalgia will initially be evaluated by Dr. Mueller, a physician experienced in the holistic treatment of IC, and fibromyalgia. Based on presentation, severity, previous treatments attempted, and other factors a customized treatment plan will be formulated. When combined with Sajune’s renowned five-point restorative medicine model, this comprehensive MSM treatment program holds tremendous promise for those afflicted with debilitating syndromes such as IC, fibromyalgia, and other chronic pain syndromes.
